Lee and colleagues have generated mice deficient in hsp70.1in their laboratory. In this study they conducted a bioassay of the hsp70.1-deficient mice after a prolonged exposure to RFR to see if these mice are vulnerable to this situation. The mice were exposed to RFR at either 849 or 1,763 MHz at a whole body average SAR of 0.4 W/kg. They were exposed for 45 minutes a day, 5 days per week, for 10 weeks, and then sacrificed. The hsp-deficient mice were compared with sham-exposed mice and with wild mice (i.e. those with normal hsp levels).

Major tissues were histopathologically analyzed, and immunocytochemically evaluated for cell proliferative activity. Apoptosis was also assessed, and the stress response evaluated by the expression of hsps and by phosphorylation of the stress-activated kinases.

There was no difference in any of these assessments between hsp-deficient mice exposed to RFR, and sham exposed mice. RFR exposure did not result in any evidence of changes in cell proliferation, apoptosis, or stress response. Wild mice likewise showed no evidence of changes in these parameters.
