This study was part of the international Interphone study. In this paper the authors investigated the association between radiofrequency/microwave (RF/MW) EMF exposure and the risk of glioma or meningioma.

Cases were identified between October 1, 2000, and October 31, 2003. They were between 30 and 69 years. Diagnosis was confirmed histologically. In total, 891 cases were identified, and 747 participated in the study (83.8% response). There were 366 glioma and 381 meningioma cases. Two controls were matched to each case by age, sex, and region.

Occupational exposure was assessed by detailed analysis of a wide variety of activities, and was classified into no, probable, and high exposure. Duration of high exposure was classified into not highly exposed, exposed for 10 years, and exposed for 10 years.

Multiple conditional logistic regressions were performed, and showed no significant relationship between occupational exposure to RF/MW EMF and brain tumours. There was a slight, though not statistically significant, in adjusted odds ratio with increasing duration of exposure for both glioma and meningioma cases. However, these results were based on low number of cases.
