Thirty volunteers (age 18-30 with normal hearing) participated in two sessions to assess the effect of electromagnetic fields (EMFs) on hearing. Hearing threshold levels on pure tone audiometry and transient evoked acoustic emissions were recorded before and immediately after 10 minutes of genuine or sham exposure to EMFs at either 900 or 1800 MHz frequency. There were 15 in each group. The exposure was double blind and counterbalanced in order. There were no statistically significant differences in the results between genuine and sham exposure, or between pre- and post-exposure readings.
