The authors tested the effect of RFR on 20 healthy men with normal hearing. Baseline measurements of transient evoked otoacoustic emission (TEOAE) and auditory brainstem response (ABR) were obtained. The subjects were then exposed to an electromagnetic field of 900 to 1800 MHz from a GSM phone, placed against the left ear. Three sessions were carried out. In the first, the subject had the phone against the ear for 30 minutes, and no conversation occurred. In the second, on hour after the first, the subject carried on 12 conversations of 2 minutes and 30 seconds each during a 30-minute period. The third session took place 1 hour after the second. Subjects had the phone placed against the left retroauricular area rather than the ear, and the session lasted 15 minutes.

No significant changes were observed during exposure, compared with the baseline TEOAE and ABR baseline measures.
